A Report On The Translation Of Technical Documents Of Locomotives

With the rapid development of science and technology,demands for locomotive specifications and technical documents are growing quickly.The quality of translating technical documents and materials about locomotives has a significant impact on the development of Chinese locomotives.This type of translation not only has features of translating science and technology texts,such as sound logic,standard and formal language,but also has the characteristics of being disciplinary and specialized.This thesis aims to analyze the features of technical documents of locomotives and find out practical translation methods.This report uses the translation of technical documents of translation as a case study,and the source text is written in English.After the analysis of the source text,the author finds that the translation of scientific texts focuses on the semantic equivalence between the source text and the target text.Dynamic Equivalence Theory can be the theoretical guidance of translating this project.According to the theory,corresponding translation techniques have been adopted.In this translation report,how to prepare for locomotive translation and how to adjust the translation to the given context according to the Chinese way of expression are discussed.Features of the language used in locomotives are listed.Problems about terms,long and complicated sentences,imperative sentences and passive sentences that appear frequently in the locomotive translation are taken as examples and corresponding translation techniques are proposed.Based on the principle of dynamic equivalence,the author adopted many translation techniques,such as determining the meaning from the context,addition,translating in sequence or reversion to solve the problems in the process of this project.From this translation practice,conclusions have been drawn.Because of the differences between English and Chinese,the content and structure of the source text must be reorganized,and order adjustment should be made in the translating process.The essence and meaning of the source language can not be fully expressed in the target language only from the equivalence of literal level,they need to achieve the dynamic equivalence.Only in this way,can it express the accurate meaning of the source text and make the translation easily understood.With the coping techniques summarized,the author hopes they will be helpful for her future studies and will provide references for other translators who are working on similar translation projects.
