Daniel Bell is a famous American postmodern philosopher who enjoys a good reputation in western academic circle. His theories of "the end of ideology","the post-industrial society" and "the cultural contradictions of capitalism" have been popular so far, which caused worldwide concern.Based on systematic research of Max Weber and Werner Sombart's theories about the origin of capitalism,Bell combined them together and established his unique theoretical system. This paper mainly studies the core terms in Bell's postmodernist philosophy.Research of his core terms is of great theoretical value to the study of postmodernism. From philosophical views of research, based on the collection and classification of a large number of literatures about Bell's thoughts, with both diachronic and synchronic method, this paper discusses Bell's postmodernist philosophy. This paper has explored and explained the core terms in Bell's postmodernist philosophy from five aspects, including: introduction and body part. And the body part includes background, content, theoretical features and brief comments on his core terms.Firstly, the introduction part of this paper makes a literary review of similar research projects in China and abroad and cites some theoretical achievements about Bell's philosophical theories which have been published overseas. The domestic scholars have begun to focus on Bell's philosophical theories. And translations of Bell's original works and a few monographs have been published.Secondly, the author points out the basic content, innovation points and research methods of this paper. Finally, this paper analyzes the theoretical and practical significance, thus comprehensively and profoundly mastering Bell's postmodernist philosophical theory. The body part of this paper is divided into four chapters.Chapter One of the paper has briefly drawn the outline of Bell's life story as well as his publications and summarized social and theoretical background of the core terms in his postmodernist philosophy.Chapter Two has elaborated nine core terms which can best represent Bell's philosophical thoughts, generally exploring their contents, origin and development and stressing theoretical value.Chapter Three has highly generalized theoretical features of the core terms in Bell's postmodernist philosophy.Based on study of Bell's postmodern thoughts, the paper has concluded that his core terms have theoretical features of interdisciplinary vision, criticism of the capitalism and cultural perspective.Chapter Four is about brief comments on Bell's postmodernist philosophical thoughts, which reveal its theoretical content and academic value as well as indicate its constructiveness and limitations.
