Before Henry VIII died, He formed a Regency Council which consist in sixteen gentlemen, aiming to balance the power and assisting the young King Edward ?.During the reign of Edward VI, the Duke of Somerset and the Duke of Northumberland became the leader of the Council in turn to controll the Tudor Government. This article starts with the opportunity of Northumberland that he will become the leader of Regency Council, and fully discusses the economy mearsure,religion refrom and diplomacy, in order to make a proper evaluation of the regency of Duke of Northumberland in the second reign of Edward VI(1549-1553).The paper is divided into introduction, text and conclusion, and the text includes four chapters.The first chapter focuses on the Duke of Northumberland's ascent. He showed his outstanding military ability and fully political capital which ready to overturn the Duke of Somerset, through two big combat. In addition, he wins the trust of Edward VI and the Regency Council, since then he replaced the Duke of Somerset successfully.The second chapter relates to the action which the Duke of Northumberland have recovered the England's economy and the effects of these action. He begins with the economy reform which to recoinage, to weaken the Hanseatic trade privileges, and to open up a new trade market. In the end, he improved the royal finance and eases the domestic inflation pressure, to a certain extent, he also maintained the interests of the merchants' benefits.The third chapter discusses the background, the characteristic and the impact of this Protestant reformation. The radical reformation in this period of the Duke of Northumberland,catered to the King's religious beliefs and helped the Duke to win enormous political interests, that also laid the foundation of the Protestant reformation under the period of Elizabeth I.The fourth chapter studies the specific foreign measure, purpose and the influence in the second stage of Edward VI. Under the leadership of the Duke of Northumberland, England were not hostile to Scotland, turned to keep a friendly relationship with France and Spain. In order to relieve the intense foreign surroundings, and to maintain the benefits of England nation-state.During the regency of the Duke of Northumberland, he makes great influence on the development of England, but we can not ignore his defects.The conclusion will make comments on the Duke of Northumberland.
