In the Spring and Autumn Period, each various state got away from the Zhou Dynasty in succession as the Zhou royalty declining, and became the state that had the opposite independent sovereignty actually. They owned the opposite independent political power, explicit territory boundary, respective citizen and opposite independence of politics, economy, military system. Each state could handle and solved his own domestic and diplomacy affairs independently. Diplomacy had much function in each development process of various states. Sunzi, a great thinker of China, ever said that the best military affair is strategy, diplomacy is the second, war is the third and the massacre is the last resort. Each state carried on a series of diplomatic affairs actively according to the circumstance of oneself. Take a wide view of the Spring and Autumn Period, the age is not only a history period for the society to change greatly, but also a specially active period of Chinese diplomacy history. All made the breakthroughs in each aspect of the diplomatic business such as form, content and thought etc. It provided many lessons for the future diplomacy theory and it was laid the foundation of the future diplomacy business.This dissertation is divided into three segments to analyze the diplomacy problems of Song Duke State in the Spring and Autumn Period. Chapter 1 deals with the diplomatic environment of Song Duke State from the territory and strategic position of Song Duke State. Song Duke State was located in a military strategy position that various mighty states contended for and surrounded by many states surnamed Ji. This kind of special diplomatic surrounding produced very profound influence on the diplomacy affairs of Song Duke State.Chapter 2 discusses the diplomacy relations and diplomacy strategy of Song Duke State with other states. It is mainly divided into five sections to analyze the diplomacy relations and diplomacy strategy of Song Duke State with Zhou Dynasty, Zheng state,Lu state, some mighty states such as Qi,Jin,Chu state and some weak states.Chapter 3 summarized the diplomacy thought and its influence on Song Duke State on the basis of the analysis and the investigation into the diplomacy strategy of Song Duke State. Song Duke State carried on extensive diplomatic contacts with those big and strong states such as Zheng State, Lu State, Qi State, Jin State, Chu State and so on and at the same time with those small and weak states around it in the Spring and Autumn Period. People of Song Duke State are the descendant of Shang Dynasty. Song Duke State, under the influence of Zhou culture simultaneously, inherited some characteristics of Shang culture directly.
