| The book Post-war Japan as a Sea Power: Imperial Legacy, Wartime Experience and the Making of a Navy is one of "Bloomsbury Studies in Military History" book series published by Bloomsbury Publishing, translated by People's Publishing House. Chapter six of this book is mainly about the strategies and policies of Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) in the Pacific region from 1952 to 2004. Translation of relevant academic military works is conducive to enhancing the maritime awareness and promoting the development of Chinese Navy.The author participated in the translation project of the book Post-war Japan as a Sea Power: Imperial Legacy, Wartime Experience and the Making of a Navy in September,2016. Rigorousness and professionalism are the prominent features of academic military work, contributing to the translation difficulties. Based on the author's translation practice and under the guidance of Skopos theory,the major translation difficulties will be analyzed from the lexical, syntactic and discourse level. The author employs online translation tools to deal with the military terminology translation, adopts several translation techniques like rearrangement and division to translate long and complex sentences, and uses proper pronouns and conjunctions to achieve coherence in the target text. This report aims to provide feasible solutions to the field of military translation, and serves as a reference for later researchers in translating similar texts in the future. |
