A Project Report On The Translation Of BIS Quarterly Review 2016 (Excerpt)

With the development of global economy, English-Chinese financial translation is on growing demand. Meanwhile,fina,ncial English translation poses higher requirements to translators for its accuracy and strictness is of paramount importance. The strategy of translating financial English and ensuring the quality of translation is a research project worth practicing and exploring. BIS Quarterly Review 2016 reviews development state of advanced economies and emerging market economies in the first quarter of 2016 and points out issues existing in financial field in 2015. On the basis of translation practice of the first three chapters in the Review, this project report analyzes major issues and difficulties including the translation of financial terms, specific difficult words, long sentences, and the discourse style. Corresponding to each difficulty, feasible translation strategies are explored, including ensuring meaning of words by fixed collocation, context and relative background for translating financial terms; amplification, omission and conversion for translating difficult words; cutting, inverting, recasting sentences for translating English long sentences, and lexical devices for discourse style. The final part discusses the recommendations for future translation projects.
