The dynasties of Ming and Qing Dynasties created a large number of painters,which faced the cruel reality, being extremely depressed. They fled into the Taoists, or escape to the mountains, to the pursuit of individuality. They opposed to the factions of retro painting led by "Four Wang", and formed a local faction with highly distinctive features. Benxiao Dai was just the very representative of the abovementioned painters.Although his painting status was not as famous as Tao Shi and Jiang Zhe at that time, but formed his own distinctive style. Benxiao Dai ' s painting has not attracted enough attention in the history of art. Until the twentieth Century 70s and 80s, scholars begun to concern on his works. Xishangshi and Yongnian Xue' s research on Benxiao Dai opened this painter's veil for us, but the study on his paintings was still weak. This paper aims to study on the Atlas of Mount Huangshan by Benxiao Dai, in order to cause more attention on him.Benxiao Dai insisted exploring his own way of painting in his life. Firstly he bore the grief that his father committed suicide hunger. He stuck to the volition of his father,lived in the mountains more than ten years. He traveled all over the landscape after the middle-aged, traveled half Chinese, frequently in Nanjing, Mount Huangs, Mount Huashan and so on. Especially be spiritually attracted to Mount Huangshan, then he met other paints like Tao Shi, Jiang Zhe, and Qing Mei, always exchanging with each other.Benxiao Dai always adhered to the belief that being learned from the nature, swam in the natural landscape. He also made bold innovations and explored a unique style of painting.Benxiao Dai was skilled in using the dry brush, getting flavors of Yuan Dynasty. He traveled the five famous mountains of Yue during his life, having broad horizons. His paintings on Mount Huang is especially vivid. The representative of the Atlas of Mount Huangshan had a vivid charm and a style of Manhattan. The painting depicted Mount Huangshan's unique clouds and soaring pines using dry brush with ink painting form,which expressed the desolate and lonely deep expression of the painter under the background with changed times.This article is divided into three chapters to discuss Benxiao Dai's work Atlas of Mount Huangshan. The first chapter analyzes the formation reasons for Benxiao Dai's paintings of Mount Huangshan from the Ming and Qing Dynasties' unique political environment, economic development, ideological transformation, the famous special cultural connotation of Mount Huangshan, and his relationships with his teachers and friends. The second chapter treats Benxiao Dai's Atlas of Mount Huangshan as the research object, analyzes the art form of painting from the aspects of space, ink and the structure of the paintings. And it compares the features and the themes of the paintings with other painters. The third chapter analyzes the aesthetic construction of the Atlas of Mount Huangshan from the perspectives of the picture, the Zen, the charm and the relationship between poetry and painting, and probes into the deep artistic conception of Benxiao Dai's paintings.
