Study On The Ghost Festival Customs Of Song Dynasty

Traditional Chinese festivals as the most valuable intangible cultural heritage, it records the Chinese people in the development of cultural attainments.This study object of the thesis based on the Ghost Festival of Song Dynasty ,which explored the mainly customs, cultural connotation and its characteristics of times.At this time, Ghost Festival that absorbed the ideas of Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism,the festival customs further fantastic and followed by later generations.Along with the evolution of the thought of"three religions unity" in the Song Dynasty, Buddhism,Taoism had accelerated the secularization process and the Ghost Festival developed a genuine folk festival that shows the era characteristics of commercialization,folk culture, entertainment in the Song Dynasty.In this paper, the first part introduces the time background of Song Dynasty and the evolution of the Ghost Festival.The second part combs the mainly customs of festival by use of notes, novels,local chronicles and other historical records.The third part through comparing the customs of Dongjing and Linan by use of the novel of Dongjing meng hua lu and Meng liang lu in order to analyze the differences between north and south of China.The fourth part investigates the relationship between the Ghost Festival and the Confucianism,Buddhism, Taoism in the Song Dynasty,including the festival's cultural connotations,the relationship between Festival and religion and the era characteristics of Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism.This paper holds that the Ghost Festival is a oldest traditional festival in China,although it has more endowed with religious ideas,it shows people attach importance to family ,revered ancestor and practice of filial piety culture in China.Understanding of history,customs related to the Ghost Festival can awaken people's beautiful wish and the original memory.It is of great significance for protection and inheritance of traditional festivals.As a rich cultural connotation and various customs forms of traditional festival,the Ghost Festival response to the era of inheriting ethnic memory in the rapid development of modernization.Keeping the age-old customs and adding elements of the times,which can enhance the consciousness of inheriting civilization and deepen the sense of ethnic identity .
