| With the rapid development of economic globalization and china’s booming development in economy,more and more Chinese enterprises have taken the opportunity to expand their business into the global market.Since the competition in the international market is extremely fierce,Chinese enterprises need to enhance communication and cooperation with other foreign corporations so as to attract more customers and improve their competitiveness.So Chinese corporations need corporate profiles version to make publicity for themselves,promote their image,advertise their own products and services,thus expanding the influence.However,some problems still exist in the translating of corporate profiles,which make it difficult to realize the target readers’ expectation and achieve the function of corporate profiles.This thesis aims to deal with these problems and improve the translating of corporate profiles.As a kind of pragmatic writing,it’s a good way to apply functional approaches to corporate profiles translation.Corporate profiles have the special function of projecting corporate images,promoting products and service.The translating of corporate profiles should be guided by functionalist approach which is more flexible and appropriate.Traditional translation theories overemphasize equivalence and loyalty,which neglect the purpose and functions of the version.Translators should choose appropriate translating strategies under the guidance of functionalist approach.The Skopos Theory is the core of functionalist approach put forward by Hans J.Vermeer,which emphasizes interaction and pragmatic features of translation.It holds that the action of translation is decided by the skopos of translation,which is commonly thought to be the communicative goal of the translation.Effective corporate profiles should achieve readability and acceptability to make corporations accepted by the target readers of the translation.This thesis applies the research methods of case study and comparative study.From the perspective of functionalist approach,by studying and analyzing the samples,some existed problems in the English translation of Chinese corporate profiles are pointed out,reasons are analyzed and solutions to improve the translating of Chinese corporate profiles are listed.Through this research,the author wants to give some inspiration to the translating of corporate profiles and works hard to summarize some translating methods in corporate profiles translation so as to achieve the purpose of corporate profiles,meet the target readers’ expectation and enhance the competitiveness and influence of Chinese corporations.This thesis consists of six chapters.The first chapter introduces the research background,significance and the structure of this thesis.The second chapter is the part of literature review,focusing on the research development of corporate profiles translation and the review of functionalism.The third chapter introduces the theoretical basis of this thesis.The fourth chapter makes a detailed analysis of corporate profiles from the perspective of definition,function and stylistic features.The fifth chapter is the core of this thesis.Based on functionalist approaches,some problems concerning the English translation of Chinese corporate profiles are pointed out,reasons are analyzed and solutions to improve the translation of Chinese corporate profiles are listed.Chapter six serves as the conclusion of this thesis with a brief discussion on the main findings and limitations of this research. |
