As different translators have diverse life experiences, academic skills and personal values, they tend to demonstrate more and more subjectivity and creativity while translating certain texts and win admirable public attention. With the appearance of the Cultural Turn, western scholars gradually turned their eyes to cultural phenomena out of the linguistic level.Translators' status has changed towards "visibility",and the status of translators has been promoted. The Art of War, one of the brightest treasures of classic Chinese culture,is considered to be the oldest military masterpiece with worldwide influence. As The Art of War is filled with deep life philosophy and obscure language, it brings translators various interpretations and creates lots of English versions and undoubtedly, translator's subjectivity shows up. This thesis will present a comparative study of two English versions, one is from a foreign translator Lionel Giles and the other is from a domestic translator Lin Wusun from the perspective of hermeneutics of translator's subjectivity. Concerning the research areas, it mainly analyzes these two English versions of these two translators in three major parts:translation-preparation, text-translation under the linguistic and cultural aspects, and preferences of translation strategies. The thesis attempts to reveal translator's subjectivity under hermeneutics in translating The Art of War by different translators and seeks to show the diversity of literature translation, and prove that literature translating has a tight relationship with translator's subjectivity.
