This thesis takes ‘The Bauhaus 1919-1928’ exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art,N.Y.,1938 as the clue and point-cut.Through careful study over existing exhibition archives and related literature,I want to make an analysis of the background, structure, installation technique as well as the critical reception of this exhibition,at the same time trying to present the social context and aesthetic appearance of this exhibition,to show how curators respond to the certain historical context and thus reconstruct the image of the Bauhaus.Last but not least, this thesis will focus on the roles of curators and art museum played during this certain exhibition, for instance how they shaped the specific discourse about Bauhaus through installation strategies,as a result of which, influenced the subsequent dissemination of Bauhaus idea in the United States, and participate in the ‘rewriting’of the Bauhaus history in the United States and Germany after World War II.
