| “Animated documentary” was born with controversy.Most of the discussion is to examine that how animation can be a documentary,or define and categorize animated documentary within documentary theory system.Unfortunately,this is resulting in overly restrictive boundaries that documentary must adhere to.While filmmakers and animators are constantly breaking the boundary and combining animation and documentary features to create a number of exploratory works.These works are not only enrich the film expression with so-called paradox,but also bring new blood both to animation and documentary.Based on the history of animation and non-fiction film,this paper analyzes the development and influence brought by the blurred boundaries.Take a stand of the characteristics of animation itself,this paper tries to analyze the characteristics of animated documentaries and to deeper the understanding of this ambiguous approach.I will argue that we should resist the urge to set animated documentary into a strict mode or into one genre before we know more about it.This paper begins with the history between animation and non-fiction film,collecting and researching the relative theories and cases both in animation and non-fiction film by combining the methods of literature review,comparative study and induction. |
