This thesis uses the genealogies and local chronicles as the main historical data, applies a social and cultural historic perspective, and takes the immigration and patriarchal clan in the northeast of Jiangxi Province during Ming and Qing Dynasties as the object of study, investigates the historical process of the immigrants' settlement after a long period of economic accumulation and complex family construction,in order to deeply understand the development of local social order in Northeast Jiangxi.Besides the introduction and conclusion, the main body of this thesis consists of 3 chapters. The second chapter mainly discusses Northeast Jiangxi Province's regional environment and historical background. The northeast part of Jiangxi Province is located in the mountainous provincial boarder region, and had formed an economy characteristic of mountainous areas such as mining, tea growing and paper manufacturing. At the same time, due to it is located at the junction of Zhejiang,Fujian,Anhui and Jiangxi, the population frequently flowed for a long time.Furthermore, because of the administrative management of this region was relatively weak, its social order was often faced with periodic destruction and reconstruction. The complexity of its natural environment, along with the development of a mountainous region economy and the frequent change of its administrative system, together constituted a unique environment for population migration and settlement in this region, and thus was the historical background of why the immigration and social order of this area had periodic reconstruction in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The third chapter mainly discusses the immigration and the patriarchal clan in the northeast of Jiangxi Province in Ming dynasty.Northeast Jiangxi Province experienced continuous “mining unrest” and prohibition policy in Ming Dynasty, and this led to the relatively slow development of Northeast Jiangxi for a long period of time. However, there were still a large number of immigrants continue to enter the region, and resulting in a continuous development process. The Qing Yang Mao clan was one such group of immigrants. After the family moved into this region, and through the long-term economic accumulation, they carried out a series of clan activities such as repairing genealogy, builting ancestral hall and so on.Finally, they became an influential regional clan. With the rise of the gentry class, local social order had also undergone a process of adjustment and integration. The Forth chapter mainly discusses the immigration and the patriarchal clan in the northeast of Jiangxi Province in Qing dynasty.Northeast Jiangxi Province experienced a long period of social unrest in the early Qing Dynasty, which resulted in the introduction of governmental policies to encourage immigration. With the gradual entry of immigrants, local social order rebuilt. The Hua Ting Huang clan moved during the early Qing Dynasty. In the process of settlement, economic accumulation and the strengthening of its clan organization played an important role.Among them, the long-term accumulation of property was the economic base, and the construction of clan organization was the key to the transformation from the immigrants to the local people. In this process, local social order had also been adjusted. The study of this thesis shows that the continued influx of immigrants into the northeast region of Jiangxi Province during the Ming and Qing Dynasties not only created settlements, but also brought about periodic reconstruction to the local social order. This kind of periodic and structural adjustment constituted one of the basic characteristics of the Northeast Jiangxi region.
