J.M.Coetzee is a famous contemporary white English writer of literature,winner of 2003 Nobel Prize for literature.He describes his contemplation about postcolonial history and opinions about the social problems by the writing of postcolonial.We can see descriptions about black images in most of his works.In this paper we select Life & Times of Michael K,Iron Age and Disgrace as the research objects,and comb out three kinds of images about the black and then interpret the cultural connotation of the black image.This paper consists of three parts,namely introduction,text and conclusion.The introduction part mainly introduces the basic introduction about J.M.Coetzee and focuses on giving a conclusion about the research of Coetzee’s novels worldwide in the last decade as well as points out the innovation of the thesis.The conclusion part briefly mentions the features of novels about J.M.Coetzee’s which won the Nobel Prize,and points out that there is still a long way to go to about the research of J.M.Coetzee.The text is divided into four chapters.The first chapter analyzes the main performances about the black as a victim.The article argues that during the colonial era,especially during the implementation of the racialsegregation era,the black were all victims which were mainly manifested in three forms: the aphasic who are audible,even the occasional voice makes no sense,the servant who had nothing to do but surrender or yield confronting with the high-handed policy and violent repression,and the beast who have no dignity sharing the same living environment and temperaments with the animal.The second chapter analyzes the manifestations of blacks as "good people".The article hold the opinion that the black are not as low-level human beings as those who have been traditionally thinking as undocumented,low IQs or even without intelligence.As the matter of fact,they are all good people who have the good quality as all the human beings.And they all sharing the three kinds of characteristic: first people who are simple,kind and generous,second are the ones who attach great importance to honor and right,dare to fight for their dignity.And the last are those who are hardworking,smart and capable,and they are in favor of or even obsessed with the land.Chapter 3 analyzes the main features of the “mob”.The article argues that the black do have some flaws in personality as other races,which can be taken as the weakness of human nature.And this article holds these human weakness and flaws as the character of mob.Specifically,these mobs have two main character weakness,first ones with the characters as violent and brutal as the devil which most of thewesterners hate.Second are those who are arrogant and crazy,and they would do whatever they want to revenge.The fourth chapter explains the social connotation of the black image embodied by J.M.Coetzee.The author of this article holds the opinion that J.M.Coetzee forms a transcendental and dialectical transcendental perspective and multicultural view for he has long been in the spirit of wandering state.From this,J.M.Coetzee’s writing about the profound connotation of the black are mainly in the two aspect: first,making a detail inquiry about the complex relationship between the social status,economic condition and their personality characteristics in the moral level so that not only to take a rational,objective and dialectical view of the multiplicity,complexity and contradiction of the black but also to see through the complex relationship between the moral and the status,thus to perspective human inherent human weakness though the complicated relationship between human beings.Second,by the describing of the black,J.M.Coetzee expects to express his demand at the political level,that is,expecting the black and the white impose compassionate understanding on each other so as to realize the reconciliation and harmony between the black and the white and their culture respectively,so that to seek a new path for the South African national reconciliation and social development.
