As students of MTI,a professional master's degree program,we should constantly enhance our abilities and broaden hands-on experience by undertaking various translation and interpreting activities. In order to further improve her professional level, starting from July 2015 to the end of October 2016,the author served as an interpreter for CDB project,a gas project jointly invested by American Chevron and Petro China.Based on her experience in the project, the author produced this report,in which she analyzed in detail the problems encountered and her corresponding coping tactics. This report mainly includes descriptions of the interpreting task and the interpreter's preparation works, the problems encountered and corresponding coping tactics.Firstly,it gives a description of the background information and requirements concerning the interpreting task.Since the job required was to work as an interpreter for CDB gas project, the interpreter shall possess interpreting capabilities and aptitude for the oil and gas industry.Secondly, the report tells the practical and theoretical preparations made by the interpreter. The practical preparation consists of attending speeches, learning terminologies, pronunciation and mocks practices. For the theoretical part, the author conducted a selective studying of prominent theories and took a preference for the theory of sense. The core view of the theory of sense is that for interpreting and translation activities, the emphasis should be put on communicating the ideas instead of being shackled by the words. As far as the author is concerned, she thinks that unlike the translation activities,as interpreting is under the influence of time, environment and on-spot response, the most important thing for an interpreter is to precisely understand the ideas and deliver them. Therefore she chose the theory of sense as theoretical support for the interpreting task. The third part is the core of this report. In this chapter, the interpreter analyses the problems encountered as well as coping tactics. The problems include accent, terminology and translationese corresponded by coping tactics of pattern summary, building up,contrastive analysis, morphological changes and increasing cross-cultural awareness.Lastly, the report summarizes the gains and deficiencies by self-assessment,feedbackand gives the author's suggestions for future studies. This interpreting task is the author's first job as a professional interpreter, which taught the interpreter a great deal of professional knowledge and interpreting techniques. Also, the interpreter acquired a new perspective of learning from the task and thereby adjusting her way of studying. What we can learn from the report is that in order to complete an interpreting task successfully, besides essential linguistic skills and proper pre-task preparations, the interpreter should summarize and analyze the problems and coping tactics during and after a specific task in order to better their interpreting abilities.
