Report On The E-C Translation Project Of Valuation For Mergers And Acquisitions

With China’s reform and opening-up and the development of globalization,China has close relations with other countries in terms of the financial activities and plays a significant role in the international finance field.Therefore,financial translation has become more and more important in China’s economy.Financial English texts have the features of professionalism,commonly-used abbreviation and times in terms of vocabulary.Syntactically speaking,they are characteristic of complicated sentence,long sentence,non-subject sentence and passive voice sentence,etc.Therefore,financial English translation,as one branch of translation of English for science and technology,is required to be accurate,professional,normalized,etc.This report is written on the basis of E-C financial translation project which the author has completed.In it,the author has described the whole project translation process and some preparatory work including reading parallel texts and knowing about some related requirement concerning the financial English industry.Then,the author expounds the translation difficulties and corresponding translation techniques in the translation process.The two major difficulties are the translation of long sentence and terminology.To them,the author has adopted proper translation techniques such as following the original order,inverting the original order,splitting a long sentence into shorter parts or sentences,literal translation and borrowing of the original abbreviation under the guidance of Skopos theory.Last,the author has checked and corrected the translation to make it more precise to make it meet the requirements of the company.On the basis of reflection of translation practice,the author has proposed two suggestions for translation,especially for financial English translation.Firstly,having comprehensive understanding about the background information of a certain field before translation is beneficial for translators to make the translation more precisely and efficiently.Secondly,choosing proper techniques during the translation process is helpful for translators to get a more qualified translation with half the effort.The author hopes that the paper will have a referential value to improve the translator’s competence and promotes the non-literary translation to some extent.
