A Study Of The Opium-Banning And Its Influence In Binchuan Prefecture During The Late Qing Dynasty (1906-1911 Years)

Today drug problem is one of the serious social problems in China.In the middle of the Qing Dynasty,the opium problem brought a deep disaster to China.The Qing government launched a multi-level and comprehensive Anti-Opium movement during the Late Qing Dynasty,including banning planting,eating,trading,and trafficking opium.Binchuan Prefecture responded actively to Anti-Opium movement.It made great efforts to implement the Anti-Opium,trying to develop alternative planting and choose to plant cotton.It is worth exploring the Anti-Opium process of Binchuan Prefecture,and the influence on Binchuan Prefecture at the Late Qing Dynasty and the contemporary Binchuan County.Based on the theoretical perspective of regional history study and with the methods of literature research,field investigation,and comprehensive analysis,this paper makes full use of the Opium-Banning files in Archives of Dali Prefecture and focuses on the progress of Opium-Banning in Binchuan Prefecture during the Late Qing Dynasty.According to the development of the event,the paper describes the event's background,process,result,and influence,mainly analyzes the concrete implementation of the Opium-Banning of Binchuan Prefecture,explores the effectiveness of the Opium-Banning of Binchuan Prefecture and the reasons for the effectiveness of it,and explains the influence of the Opium-Banning of Binchuan Prefecture.At last,this paper reveals the following two points.First,the issue of the Opium-Banning is a complex social problem.It is not only related to the livelihood of farmers and businessman,but also public health,the economic development,social atmosphere,etc.Coupled with the more serious opium problem of the Binchuan Prefecture,the difficulty of the Opium-Banning is greater.Nevertheless,through Qing government,Yunnan provincial government,Binchuan Prefecture,local elite and some people work together,the Opium-Banning achieves some success.The agricultural structure can be adjusted to curb the source of opium.The famers changes to plant cotton instead of opium.The case makes agricultural development on track.Second,during the Opium-Banning period,the case has an influence not only on localeconomy,social atmosphere and so on,but also on the thought of the pursuit for high profits of agricultural cultivation.The thought influences the adjustment of agricultural structure at that time,and at the same time,it also affectes the development of agriculture in Binchuan County to a certain extent.
