The Reasearch Of Women Times’ Novel Creation

Women Times(1911-1917)is the first commercial women specialized newspapers from the late Qing Dynasty to the early Republic of China.Some hot and popular writers such as BaoTianxiao,Zhou Shoujuan,Bi Yihong and Xu Zhuodai wrote for it.The main audiences of Women Times were intellectual women from upper class of the society who had received secondary education.The aim of this newspaper is to convey the belief of women independence through modern print media platform.This newspaper was designed to improve the social status of women and the ethos of equality between men and women.Moreover,the most important purpose is to awake their citizen’s consciousness by cultivating their self-reliant awareness and traditional family virtues.Women Times had set up the literature column where the published literature could truly reflect the women’s living conditions from the late Qing Dynasty to the early Republic of China and the improvements of their Social status.There are four parts in this thesis.The first part includes the general content and narrative genre of Women Times.This part mainly describes the background,overall content and narrative genre and briefly takes some narrative articles,translation and creative fiction for example,which can do matting for the whole thesis and describe the overall situation of Women Times.The second and third parts are separate narrations of representative writer groups in this newspaper.The second part’s core writer is Zhou Shoujuan and this part elaborates the theme and connotation of her novel creation and translation by analyzing the image of women shaped in these fictions and the author’s view on women.The description and comprehension of the women related works by Zhou Shoujuan could help us evaluate the literary value of her fiction creationobjectively.The third part is specific analysis of fictions from representative writers: Bi Yihong,Xu Zhuodai,Zhang Yihan,BaoTianxiao and Chen Leng.By analyzing their published works,this part explores how these progressive intellectuals in that time guided women’s spiritual life.The forth part is the conclusion of this thesis.Based on the researches above on Women Times,this part summarizes the Women’s moral values,elaborates the concepts from modern women literature on the question of women’s liberation,particularly analyzes the changing process of writing from classical form to vernacular form and the views reflected in the fields of literature on women such as female education,freedom of marriage,advocating women’s rights and women’s devotion to the revolution.
