| Ludwig van Beethoven, one of the greatest German musicians and one of the most important figures in the world music history, was a musical genius who lived a life of constant struggle with fate:his mother died when he was little;he was forced by his father to play the piano during his boyhood;he had several miserable romances during his adulthood;he began to suffer from hearing loss when he was 26 until he became totally deaf at the age of 45.However,he didn’t surrender to fate;instead,he lived his hard life pursuing his musical dream and producing a wave of fine musical works including his 32 famous piano sonatas. This thesis focuses on Beethoven’s Sonata in F sharp major,op.78,one of Beethoven’s sonatas composed during his middle period,in an attempt to analyze its characteristics, form structure and share the author’s personal experience of studying and performing this work.It is hoped that this could provide some practical implications for later researchers and performers on how to better understand Beethoven and his sonatas. It consists of three chapters.Chapter One is a brief introduction to Beethoven’s life and composing career.Chapter Two is a discussion of the characteristics of Beetho, ven’s sonatas and analyses of the background, characteristics and form of his Sonata in F sharp major,op.78.Chapter Three, the most important of all,is the author’s thoughts on how to play the work well basing on her own study and performing experience with an emphasis on how to handle such elements as tempo, dynamics, melody movement, fingering, pedaling and so on. |
