Research On Zhao Zhiqian’s Seal Inscriptions

Zhao Zhiqian,altar giant of seal in the late Qing Dynasty,has a significant impact on later generations with his seal cutting artistic thoughts and styles.Zhao Zhiqian has unique creativity in the seal cutting and his inscriptions.The seal inscriptions are the important part of the theory of seal in ancient China.The seal inscriptions of Zhao Zhiqian have a lot of contents,which involve the important documents in making friends,seal cutting artistic thoughts,imitating the origins and seal discussions.The seal inscriptions have important literature and art values.Zhao Zhiqian has made bold innovations on the basis of the predecessors.He has created an unprecedented new level by introducing characters cut in relief of Wei rubbings body and statues into seal inscriptions,and most people fall far behind.This paper is based on the seal inscriptions of Zhao Zhiqian.It discusses the ideas by adopting the method of classification which is used in the long-time lost materials.There are four parts in the main body: the first part describes Zhao Zhiqian’s life and his traveling,and summarizes the friends who have important influence on seal cutting;the second part evaluates Zhao Zhiqian’s seal inscriptions,which involves the idea of honoring the Han Dynasty,the thoughts of seal cutting and imitating the origins;The third part illustrates the artistic features of seal inscriptions,such as the styles and layout,and finds the aesthetic ideas.The fourth part analyzes the thoughts and its values of seal cutting based on the above three parts.
