Abstract/Summary:
Higashino Keigo is a very popular Japanese detective novelist.His novel The Dedication Of Suspect X won three awards,which created a miracle in Japan.The novel was adapted into Japanese film version,Korean film version,and Chinese film version.This thesis,drawing on film,literature,and adaptation theories,analyzes the Japanese version from novel to film adaptation.The paper is divided into three parts: Chapter I With the first and the second narrative level,the omniscient narrator transforms the novel base.There’re conflict between the narrator and implied author.Chapter II The film inherited the novel’s perspective,and retained the novel suspense and reasoning plot.The film used montage,lens,combined with sound and music to narrate and express the emotion.With the combination of audio-visual means,the film presents bizarre atmosphere.Chapter III Japanese film showed a different perspective from the novel.The film changed rational factors into emotional factors,created emotional experience to replace the reasoning experience,and restrained to praise self-sacrifice behavior.The film adaptation is independent.By art creating,the Japanese version followed the story of the main plot and motivation,but remodeled the central figure,aesthetic experience and narrative attitude.All in all,this film adaptation converted the detective novel into a romantic movie.
