A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of Facebook Bylaws

This is a translation report of Facebook Bylaws.Bylaws are the rules and regulations enacted by a corporation to provide a framework for its operation and management.As a legal instrument,Facebook Bylaws have the same linguistic features as other legal instruments,including the abundant use of doublets and triplets,nominalizations,archaic words,long sentences and conditionals.While translating Facebook Bylaws,the author was troubled by the translation of doublets and triplets,nominalizations,and conditionals.This report,under the translation principles of precision and conciseness,came up with some effective translation methods and techniques to those translation problems.While translating doublets and triplets,condensation and literal translation were used;technique of conversion was adopted in translating nominalizations,while technique of relocation was employed in the translation of conditionals.This report is expected to provide helpful reference to the translation of similar legal texts.
