An Analysis Of The Double Piano Creation Features And Performance Of "Jupiter:the Bringer Of Jollity" By Holst

At the end of nineteenth Century and early twentieth century,the British music industry set off a burst of “British Folk Song revival” music trend.In this trend,Holst seemed to be apart from the group while the other composers were all engaged in digging out the characteristics of the British folk songs and creating folk songs with specific British style.Although he was one of the member of the New Nationalism Music,his creation focus had always been on the eastern literature and music.Most of his works were not popular,but it did not make him go against what he had been pursuing for.He turned to the mysterious and vast universe by the influence of mysterious astrology instead of drifting along.He created “The Planets” of supreme honor.“Jupiter: the Bringer of jollity” is the core movement,also the longest of “The Planets”.This movement has been praised with “the second National Anthem”.This movement is frequently played solo at the concert and it is loved by the public profoundly.But Holst did not like “The Planets" to be played incomplete.He explained to the media that the composition and title of the writing was only influenced by astrology,and there is no relationship at all with the Gods in the Myth.Therefore the meaning of Holst putting this movement as the core movement in the whole piece became the things that the writers want to digging out the most.“Jupiter: the Bringer of jollity” shows the vividness and simplicity of the British folk songs as well as the vastness and mystery of the universe.Holster combines his unique composition techniques with traditional harmonies.The work is of both tradition and novelty.The diversity of the theme style vividly reproduced the diversified musical style of “Jupiter: the Bringer of jollity”.Holster's creative features and music style in ‘Jupiter' have had profound influence on science fiction music and contemporary film music.Therefore,in the second chapter,I will focus on the analysis on the features of double-piano creation in ‘Jupiter' from several aspects.As to the film ‘Jupiter',comparing the double piano version and orchestral music version,the former has had very weak cognition degree in the domestic.Besides,its double piano version played in the domestic is not too much either.Therefore,the cooperation experience,which has been obtained when I was reading for my master's degree to research and learn the double-piano performance of ‘Jupiter',has been summed up and concluded from several aspects in the third chapter.I hope that there will be more people in the domestic to perform the work who love the performance form of double pianos and provide clearer thought for performers,so as to improve the work's artistic infection.
