Textbook in teaching is an indispensable tool and the teaching material.At the same time,teaching Chinese as a foreign language can not be separated from the teaching materials.The quality of teaching materials has a direct impact on teaching,so it is very important to prepare textbooks.By summarizing the literature on the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language,this paper makes a comparison between “Developing Chinese” and “New Concept Chinese” from the follow aspects: the design and the contents.Among them,the overall elements include the comparison of the three aspects of the positioning and objectives of materials,the preparation of the concept and the structure of the form of comparison;the elements of the content include the phonetic,text,vocabulary,grammar,practice.In addition to the introduction and conclusion,the main body of the paper includes the following two parts:First of all,the overall design aspects of the two teaching materials compares the goal,writing ideas and structure form.Two set of textbooks for primary learners pay attention to the cultivation of learners’ oral and written.They are in accordance with the concept of writing of the structure,function and culture.Also they have their own concept.The “Developing Chinese”’s concept is “integration,diversity and innovation”,while the “New Concept Chinese”’s concept is “wish learners as the center” and “learning in use”.They all have their distinguishing feature each.Series textbooks for the “Developing Chinese” conclude listening,speaking,reading,writing and comprehensive.Each series of books include basic level,medium level and high level.However,the “New Concept Chinese” has three levels of comprehensive books and there is not specific skills textbooks.In the preliminary phase of the two sets of teaching materials,the first one copy of the “Developing Chinese” has 30 classes,in addition to the only one of the text of the thirtieth class,the rest of each class has three small texts.There are 25 classes and every class has each text in the second volume.“New Concept Chinese” of two volumes have the same structure.Each volume has 40 classes and every 2 classes is a unit.The singular class is the main subject,while the dual class is training class and mainly review the sentence or expression method.Second,the teaching materials’ content elements mainly compare the phonetic,text,vocabulary,grammar,practice.Phonetic is an important tool for learning Chinese,but the author found that in many of the comparative study about the comprehensive teaching materials of the primary stage does not compare the voice,so I list the comparative of phonetic in the article.“New Concept Chinese” does not have edited pronunciation,so we mainly study the “Developing Chinese”’s;the text compares the theme and style;vocabulary mainly compares the number of the words,the position of the words in the text and the words notes;grammar mainly compares the number of the grammar and grammatical arrangement;the design of practice includes the comparison about the exercise form and types of exercise.In short,the “Developing Chinese” and the “New Concept Chinese” were in the same period and the same press.Two sets of initial stage of the integrated teaching materials have their own characteristics.They have similarities and differences.Overall,the “Developing Chinese” in all aspects of the arrangement is more detailed and more comprehensive,while the “New Concept Chinese” is simpler and easier to learn.But the two sets of textbooks still need to improve in order to meet the needs of more Chinese Learners.
