A Study Of Zhao Jishi’s Poetry

Zhao Jishi was born in Chongzhen year one of late Ming Dynasty,he was selected as a Juren(first-degree scholar in imperial examinations at the provincial level)in Qing Shunzhi year eight,during the Kangxi’s Dynasty he took the magistrate in Jiao county and later promoted as a Jishizhong(so called secretary in Qing Dynasty).He was not only a good official but also a famous literati during the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty in An Hui.Zhao Jishi was an excellent poet who thought that poetry could express people’s feelings and doctrines.He brought new life to poetry with his constantly innovation in its writing,thus he gained highly appreciation by Chen Weisong,Zhu Yizun and others.However,at present,there are few research results in the study of Zhao Jishi,especially those of his achievements,style in poetry and his specific theory of poetry writing,need to be further strengthened.This paper mainly focus on Zhao Jishi’s poems,giving a comprehensive and systematic study of activities,creations,arts and concepts of his poetry,which is based on 8 of the complete volume of Wan Qing Pavilion,Portfolio of Lin Woyao,Ji Yuan collected poems,Ji Yuan poems,and Ji Yuan notes on poems and poets.We write this paper by making full use of the previous studies of others,combing with his life experience and the poetic background in early Qing Dynasty.This paper is divided into four parts,the introduction,the main text,the conclusion and the appendix.In the introduction,we introduced the work of Zhao Jishi,especially the work of his poetry,and reviewed the history and the status of the study of his poems,we also pointed out that the current research of Zhao Jishi,especially the study of his poetry were rare.The main text is composed of four chapters.Chapter one discussed the poetry writing course and the activities of Zhao Jishi.Briefly outlines his life experience by introducing the activities of all kinds of poetry that Zhao Jishi participated in at different times.By described the experiences,poems and activities of Zhao Jishi,divided the poetry writing course into three periods,namely:before become an official(1628-1668),when become an official(1668-1688),after the dismissal(1688-1706),then analyzing Zhao Jishi’s thoughts and personality in different periods though researching for his poetry creation.Chapter two discussed the connotations of Zhao Jishi’s poetry,Zhao Jishi’s poems are filled with poets’ deep emotions and rich connotations.we classified this mainly into three parts,the feelings of being a respectable and morally lofty official;the missings of distanced relatives and hometown;the appreciations of amazing rivers and mountains,and so on.Chapter three discussed the uniqueness of Zhao Jishi’s poetic form,mainly analyzed the creations of Die Yun poetry,and Ji Zi poetry,along with some other new forms of poetry,for instance,Jin Ti poetry and so on,combined with specific poems and historical materials analysis of various forms of poetry creation and artistic characteristics.Chapter four discussed the poetic concepts of Zhao Jishi,based on Ji Yuan notes on poems and poets and the corresponding prefaces of those poems,we combined the poetic background in the early Qing Dynasty with the previous amount analyze of poems,finally we found out the outlooks of poetry which lead his creation were sincere,self-confidence,diligence and flexibility.What’s more,the poetic concepts of Zhao Jishi not only guided his own poetry creation,but also influenced to the later poeticsl in acertain degree.In the conclusion part,we gave a briefly summary of the text,at the same time,we proposed some aspects of him and his works which were worth further research.The first appendix is the Chronology of Zhao Jishi based on the poetry writing,which was an introduction of his life experience,poetry creation and artistic achievements.The second appendix is the compare and analysis of the editions by Portfolio of Lin Woyao.
