This is a translation report based on Chapter Seven selected from The Distracted Mind: Ancient Brains in a High-tech World.Written by Adam Gazzaley,a Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of California and a columnist of PBS,and Larry D.Rosen,a Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the California State University, the book is featured with rigorous and vivid style of writing.Since the work focuses its subject on a universally common social phenomenon, and further provides professional analysis and guidance,it is endowed with profound value of reading and translating. In this report, therefore, the author firstly introduces the background and significance of the project and, then probes to solve the difficulties, such as parenthesis translation and long sentence translation encountered in translating. The author then applies appropriate translation skills to solve the translating difficulties herein under the guidance of functional equivalence theory. Finally, the author summaries the report in terms of the source text, translating difficulties and solutions and makes a self-examination on the author's translation ability from the macroscopic point of view,in expectation of providing the domestic readers with meaningful translation version.
