| The source text of this translation report is an excerpt from The Pragmatics of Translation(chapter ten-twelve)”edited by Leo Hickey.In the three chapters(source text),professor Leo Hickey mainly discusses and analyzes the difference of markedness,ellipsis,hedges,rhythm and other pragmatic devices in the process of translation.And the writer of source text also puts forward many instructive and useful translation skills to solve these translation problems caused by language difference.Through the discussion and analysis,the writer of source text further verifies the importance of pragmatic devices in translation.After translating this translation project,the writer of this report has gained a lot of experiences which will be helpful for her future translation practice.In the book of The Pragmatics of Translation,Professor Leo Hickey has quoted a large number of theses to discuss the key factor-translator who was restricted by many pragmatic factors in translation activity.In order to realize the pragmatic intention of text,and achieve the communication purpose,the translator needs to deal with the difference within the source text and target text,both in form and content.Based on the content and feature of source text,the writer of this report chooses “translating intention” from the book entitled Psycho-cognitive Translation Theory as her guiding theory.This report is aiming at analyzing the way that the translator intention conveyed and the source text intention achieved.Through a large number of cases analysis,this report demonstrates the “translating intention” theory is an effective and practical way in the translation activity. |
