The Effect Of The Subconscious On Oil Painting

There have been various influences on the creative work in the realm of art including oil painting since Freud propounded the subconsciousness theory at the beginning of the 20 th century,which led to the new changes in the contents and forms of the creative work of oil painting.As a result,the surrealism painting and the abstract painting emerged with many prominent maestros such as Picasso,Rousseau,Dali,Ernst and so forth.By systemically analyzing the concept and theory of subconsciousness,this thesis attempts to throw light on its theoretical value and practical significance and to explore the inherent regularity of the application of the subconsciousness way of thinking in oil painting with hope to beneficially facilitate the advancement and development in the contents and forms of the creative work of oil painting.This thesis begins with the elaboration of the relevant concepts and theories of subconsciousness and carefully examines the relationship between “appearance comes from the state of mind” and the subconsciousness,which constitute the first part of this thesis.Part Two of this thesis summarizes the historical origin of the creative work of oil painting and emphasizes the analysis of the impact of subconsciousness on the creative work of oil painting,which include the impact on the interpretation of the painter's mind and spiritual pursuit,that on the stored memory of the painter,that on the painter's creative method,etc.The third part of this thesis starts with the analysis on the relationship between the subjective consciousness and the subconsciousness and the influence of subjective consciousness on oil painting,and focuses on the similarities and differences on the creative work of oil painting.The fourth part of this thesis systematically analyzes the application of the subconsciousness way of thinking in modern and contemporary schools of oil painting,such as the surrealism painting,the abstract painting,and so forth,and the representative painters including Rousseau,Dali,Ernst and ZENG Dajun.The fifth part of this thesis elaborates in detail the relationship between the consciousness and the way of thinking,analyzes how to cultivate and employ the conscious mind in oil painting creation,and propounds two ways of application in converting the subconsciousness into the subjective consciousness,namely,convertingunconsciously the subconsciousness into the subjective consciousness and converting consciously the subconsciousness into the subjective consciousness.In a word,the subconsciousness way of thinking provides the creator with powerful drive and plentiful material for creation,which direct the creator to work with strong objective and consciousness.When the subconsciousness can be applied and controlled,the creator can interpret the sentimentality freely in the creative process.When the subconsciousness and the subjective consciousness can be employed and allocated appropriately in the creative work of oil painting,the creation will be accomplished more successfully.
