Abstract/Summary:
Working memory load is one of the important factors of cognitive control. The studies of cognitive control often use Stroop conflict task. However, the effect of working memory load on cognitive control that the attention mechanism or the executive control mechanism in which play a role, researchers have no consistent conclusions. This study includes two experiments, the first experiment use dual-task paradigms of working memory task and Stroop task conflict. The result found only when the target and distractor separate in Stroop task conflict, working memory has influence on the Stroop interference effect based on the multiple resources theory. The second Experiment use 2-1 Mapping Paradigm that isolated two types of conflict among Stroop task-task conflict and response conflict. The first experiment result found that working memory load only has influence on the task conflict.Anyhow, the premise of multiple resource theory established is that target and distractor are in the spatial separation of state. In the Stroop conflict task that the inseparate of state will trigger the occurrence of attention mechanism and distribute attention resource.Effect of working memory load on Stroop task conflict is due to the influence of attention mechanism and executive control mechanism. And attention mechanism occurs before execution control mechanism.
