During the Hundred days' Reform and the Xinhai Revolution,Kang Youwei's phi losophy of the Confucianism has been changed,including four periods: “Introducing th e West into the Confucianism","Westernizing the Confucianism","the parallel of Conf ucianism and West" and "Confucianize the West".Finally,Kang Youwei adhere to the view of Confucian classics in modern script,which was what he approved all his lif e(Liu,2016).Due to overseas exile for many years,Kang Youwei has a deeper and broader u nderstandingof Western science,as well as the political and social theory,which in tu rn leads him believe in profound and broad Chinese culture.After his return to China,Kang Youwei found the Chinese culture into a crisis.Under the background of forei gn invasion,Western culture had a strong impact on Confucian classics.Kang Youwei tried to resist Western cultural invasion by religionizing Confucian philosophy.However,Kang Youwei's weakness of political standpoint was used and thought as a reactionary.Kang Youwei was severely criticized as a reactionary by Chen Duxi u who was a famous revolutionist.Based on the discussion of the debate between Kang Youwei and Chen Duxiu,th is paper aims to analyze the impact of "May Fourth Movement" on Confucianism,a nd furthermore to provide some inspiration for us to look upon the current modernizat ion and Confucianism.
