Commentaries of Selected Rare Relics Collected by Tianjin Museum is a translation project authorized by Tianjin Museum.Through this project,the writer aims to enable the visitors to maximally acquire knowledge on China’s geography,culture and custom,and arouse their ardent love for Tianjin and China.Museum commentary has become a sort of significant medium in boosting the dissemination of Chinese culture.Museum commentary generally belongs to the category of public signs in form and tourism text in content.However,the great culture differences become the biggest barrier for intercultural communication.In order to make a better introduction to Chinese history and culture,the translation of museum commentary is necessary.This museum text is full of different technical terms,classical Chinese and poems with abundant rhetorical application and beautiful words in four-character structure.These features have posed a great challenge for the translator.Under the guidance of Jef Verschueren’s Adaptation Theory,the author attempts to convey the meaning of the original text according to contextual correlates.The dynamics of adaptability is related to time,context and structure.So in terms of these three aspects,the author will list and analyze some typical examples in words and sentences.The time factor urges people to make adjustment and adaptation when using language.There are a lot of information concening with ancient culture,so the writer adopts addition to add related cultural information during the translation process.As context is dynamic,different contexts have controlling effect on choosing languages.This text is aimed to make foreign tourists understand,so the writer use transliteration or annotation to fill cultural vacancies.When translating rhetoric sentences,the writer mainly adopts free translation.According to different language structures in Chinese and English,the writer makes some adjustment in word order and semantic position especially when translating long and difficult sentences.This report mainly consists of four parts: the task description,proceduredescription,the case analysis and summarization,among which the case analysis is the key part.In order to conform to the cultural context,the reporter mainly adopt the translation strategy of combining domestication and foreignization.So the reporter will select some typical examples to analyze in terms of words and sentences.The last part is summarization of problems and benefits during the translation process.
