| Bei Dao,one of the important poets in the contemporary Chinese poetry field,is the acknowledged leader of Menglongshi.He has been nominated for the Nobel Literary Prize several times from 1980s to 1990s.The English translation of Bei Dao’s poetry collection has been being the heated discussion in the circle of literature and academic.The analysis of the translation of Bei Dao’s poetry is connected closely with the translation theory.Skopos Theory can provide comprehensively guidance for us from the Three Rules.With rich translating and publishing experience Bonnie has proposed the Pleasure Principle in literary translation,which is coincide with the Skopos Theory.Analyzing the translation of The August Sleepwalker,we can find the reading pleasure(the third part of Bei Dao’s poems in The August Sleepwalker revealed cruel realities and sad feelings stimulating readers to think deeply and purifying readers’minds,which are the important parts of the reading pleasure)of Bei Dao’s poems for the imagery,the Montage technique,and the rhymes used in verses.In order to represent the reading pleasure of Bei Dao’s poetry collection,a lot of adaptations have been made in Bonnie’s translation.For example,to cater for the western readers,Bonnie westernized the imagery in Bei Dao’s poetry.The rhymes in Bei Dao’s verses have been demonstrated by Bonnie in the way of capitalizing the first letter of the first word in each line.And to present the Montage Technique of Bei Dao’s poetry and transmit the major meaning,Bonnie rearranged the imagery in her translation.For the differences existing in the two languages and the two cultures,the reading pleasure of the source language can not be represented totally,so many compensations has been made by Bonnie,such as specifying the meaning of Bei Dao’s poetry.This thesis tries to analyze the reading pleasure of Bei Dao’s poetry collection and the representation in Bonnie’s translation work The August Sleepwalker. |
