The improvement of science and technology occupies a decisive position in the progress of human society, undoubtedly also facilitates the development of agriculture and food that people live by.However,as a double-edged sword, science and technology also poses threats to human's life. For example, unreasonable use of chemicals pollutes not only the soil but also the crop of the next season, which is not optimistic in the field of food safety. Thus, how to guide people to correctly evaluate the application of science and technology to food? How to optimally utilize technology? The author of Unnaturally Delicious:How Science and Technology are Serving Up Super Foods to Save the World published in 2016,Jayson Lusk, brings a positive perspective to readers and shows them an objective way to evaluate the functions of science and technology in agriculture and food. The translation report based on a translation practice of a 16,000-word English text. The source text is selected from Unnaturally Delicious:How Science and Technology are Serving Up Super Foods to Save the World, written by food and agricultural economist Jayson Lusk. The translation report consists of four chapters, making a comment on the translation practice. The background, purpose and significance of the translation project and the theoretical foundation applied to guide the translation project are stated in Chapter 1.In Chapter 2.the author, content and linguistic features of the source text are introduced. The most important part is Chapter 3,mainly describing the process of the translation project, including preparations before translating, difficulties and their solutions along with translation techniques applied to the translation practice in translating and revision after translating.Based on Nida's functional equivalence, the translator mainly adopts conversion, amplification, division and inversion as the translation techniques in the translation practice. Finally,Chapter 4 is a conclusion on the whole report, summarizing experience and lessons from this translation practice and putting forward problems to be solved. The translator has learned more about the application of technology in food and agriculture, and has acquired some experience through this practice. The translator hopes that the translation version could put forward different viewpoints to those high and new technologies encountered query, such as transgenic technology, and could help Chinese readers have a better understanding of the relations among science and technology, agriculture and food,so that they can look at those technologies in a more objective manner.
