Deeply influenced by the Romantic Literary Movement,Franz Liszt plays a significant role in the history of western piano music.He broke with the classical patterns,thoroughly liberated piano performance skills,greatly enriched the expressive power of piano,and also developed piano performance style of the 19 th century.Franz Liszt created a “symphonic poem” literary form,which exerts great effect on piano symphony.Moreover,Franz Liszt developed the technique of free modulation,which is the cradle of atonal music.Franz was known as the “Piano Devil” because of a great number of musical works.The research object of this paper was excerpted from the third supplement of the second part of Années de Pèlerinage,which named Venezia e Napoli Tarentella.Tarentella can be divided into two parts.The first one applied the genre of Tarentella Dance Music,and the second part employed the melody of Napoli's composed by Cottrau.The whole piece of Tarentella has grand power and beautiful melody,which includes many technical difficulties of Franz Liszt's music works.Not only based on the musical background,style analysis,technical difficulties of Tarentella,the researcher also investigates with her own experience and past performance to illustrate the characteristics of Liszt's piano pieces.Through the study of Tarentella,the researcher expects to provide reference for future performers with the understanding of the connotation and technical difficulties of this music work.Furthermore,with personal teaching and performance experience,the researcher is also looking forward to the improvements in teaching Liszt's works.
