| The concept of “pioneer” was originated from the 18 th century and was applied into arts by Claude-Henri de Rouvroy in the later part of the 19 th century,describing all sorts of cutting-edge movements in arts initiated by artists succeeded during the development of modernism thinking.Meanwhile in the 1980 s China,with the crisis of artistic cultures emerging,pioneer thinking also appeared in all fields.In the new era of our country’s opera history,Meng Jinghui was recognized as the leading representative of the avant-garde theatre field.As a young theatre director emerged in the 1990 s in the new China,within the span of 20 years,Meng made continuous seeking and exploring in the field of theatre.Not only did he receive recognition from both the experts and the audiences in the theatre field,but he also concreted a certain level of business success.During that period,he was the focus of the theatre field.This thesis was consisted of 5 parts including introduction,3 sections of main articles and conclusion.Through the multiple levels of arguments,the development and progression of the modern theatre were thoroughly examined and discussed.The introduction,as the first part,was a brief introduction of the current status,aim,meaning as well as relevant background of the current researches.The first section of the main article argues historical development of the avant-garde concepts,clarifying the certain concepts of “pioneer”,“avant-garde”,“avant-gardism” and “the avant-garde art”,forming a catalogue on the theoretical and conceptual level.Besides,the development trials of “the avant-garde art” were also briefly examined.The second section of the main article argues the explorations of the avant-garde theatre in China with the example of Meng’s theatre works,which offered brand new artistic materials in both the contents and the form of stage arts.About such explorations,this part of the main article mainly,by analyzing Meng’s avant-garde theatre in his different periods of creative life,through perceiving and analyzing his artistic opinions and motivations,summarizes the problems of the modern era his works are actually challenging.Nowadays,the anxiety of the modern era has appeared in all aspects of our daily lives.The avant-garde theatre,meanwhile exploring the humanity problems,exposed the existing absurd feelings and meaninglessness of life,called for reflections from that era’s thinking and also expanded people’s horizon overlooking the development of arts.Moreover,this section also made brief comparative analysis from the stage setup,performance of the acting crew and audience receptions,etc.,discussing the various changes in Meng’s artistic styles.At the same time,the author tries to further explore whether such “avant-garde” artistic views were associated with the era’s state of ailment.The third section of the main article discusses the enlightening of the avant-garde art to arts and the era.In the already transformed market economy,the characteristic of theatre arts being inbetween commercialism and non-commercialism deems it impossible to categorize theatre in a simple and crude manner.The factors of both market and arts should be considered with equal weights in order to find a sustainable way of development for theatre arts.Meng’s avant-garde theatre have very significant sales records.This should certainly be attributed to the recognition from the audiences for theatre arts,which contributed greatly to the influences of the theatre arts in the market.As a result,the acceptance of theatre from an aesthetic point of view is necessary to a certain degree.Besides,for some of his other theatre works,we should also think about their properties of commercial theatre,question their “avant-gardism” and consider how much of the “avant-gardism” was left in his works.The conclusion briefly argues the enlightenment of the avant-garde theatre to us.In each era,arts would show that particular era’s characteristics under certain circumstances.Either reflecting the status of that particular era or reminding the development trends of history,they would not solely exist without that era’s main background.All in all,the existence of arts is an objective regularity.Ever since its beginning,such regularity took effects by itself.The development of commercialism catalyzed the new forms of arts,so the avant-garde theatre are inevitably infected by commercialism.The conclusion of this thesis made reflections for such phenomenon,expecting to construct new enlightenment to the perception and appreciation of the avant-garde theatre works. |
