On Chinese Avant-Garde Theatre Of 1990s

This paper presents a systematic research on the Chinese avant-garde theatre in 1990s through a study on the creative activity of avant-garde theatre practitioners in the period.The work is organized of five sections.In the primary section, we stated the point of view that avant-garde could not be defined;by summarize the 10 years' creation career of avant-garde theatre practitioners, including Mousen,Mengjing, et al., an introductive overview of the status-of-the-art of the Chinese avant-garde theatre of 1990s is given in the next section;The intrinsic reason that the Chinese avant-garde theatre of 1990s presented consecutive respection and objection against theatre of absurd is throughoutly studied in section 3, as well as the profound influence that theatre of absurd results in Chinese theatre;The 4th section provides a comparative study between Mengjinghui, the spiritual leader of the Chinese avant-garde theatre of 1990s, and Vsevolod Meyerhold, the genius avant-garde theatre practitioner of former Soviet-Union, on which the new evolution that avant-garde theatre brought to the spirit of Chinese theatre could be based.In the remainder of the paper, some considerations is stated for both the status-of-the-art and the prospects of the Chinese avant-garde theatre of 1990s.
