Lhasa dialect is also called Utsang dialect,which is one of the three major dialects(Utsang,Kham,and Amdo)of Tibetan language.This study has used MDVP(Multi Device Voice Program)to investigate the characteristics of voice of different gender;and the characteristic of Utsang dialect in general by comparing and analyzing the different voices.The participants of this study are college students,age from 18-25,whose mother tongue is Lhasa dialect.MDVP is a voice analysis program that is produced by Kay Company in the United States of America.This program is initially developed from the pathologic voice field as an acoustic method that is to test the quality of voice and the type of the occurrence of voice;and to diagnosis voice lesion.Firstly,this study has analyzed the phonics of Lhasa dialect by MDVP.Regarding the analysis of whether the sounds accompanies with vibrations,the sound of most of the consonants are voiceless consonants,and voiceless consonants are not accompanied with vibrations when they are produced.Therefore,it is difficult to have functional parameters to analyze.Instead the voiced consonants are often accompanied with vibrations and it is easier to get enough voice parameters to calculate and analyze.There are eight voiced consonants in Lhasa dialects,which are:'m','n','(?)','(?)','l','w','r' and 'j'.This study mainly analyzed the sound of voiced consonants produced by different gender.The sound of voiced consonants produced by female are higher than male at the mean of voice parameter at fundamental frequency 'FO';the mean data of the highest fundamental frequency 'Fhi' and the lowest fundamental frequency 'Flo' show that the voice of female is higher than the voice of male;the TASM(time for analyzing sample model),the parameter data of PPQ(Pitch perturbation quotient),no mater if it is the mean data or the standard deviation,there is not much difference regarding the parameter data of both male and female participants,they are almost the same.Secondly,Selecting 6 types,and 33 kinds of voice parameters using MDVP:typel,basic 'fundamental pitch' parameter;type 2,frequency jitter parameter;type3,amplitude jitter;type 4,voice index;type 5,voice clearance parameter;type6,fundamental parameter analyzed with the compound vowels of Lhasa dialect by MDVP.Among the basic 'fundamental pitch' parameters,the 'Fhi' of female participants is higher than the male participants,'TO' and 'PO' of male and female participants appears to have a reciprocal relationship;the compound vowels' sound of Lhasa dialects increases as the 'FO' and 'PFR' gets higher.In the voice index type,the 'NUR',and VTI of change property of female participants appears to be the same,and the data of both 'NHR' and 'VTI' also do not have much difference.In the voice clearance parameter type,the DUV of both male and female participants appears to be higher than the 'NUV' of the both male and female participants.Finally,the parameters of Pitch,OQ,and SQ of both male and female participants are selected,and calculated the average parameters.Among the pitch mean 'pmean',the pitch range 'prang' and pitch maximum 'pmax',pitch standard'pstd',and pitch periodicity,the female participants have higher pitch than the male participants,and the 'pmean',pitch minimum 'pmin',pitch jitter 'pjitt' appears to be the opposite,that means male participants have higher than the female participants;The OQ of the both male and female participants seem to have a high numerical difference,this indicates that in Lhasa dialect,the pitch or 'tone' of male and female has a big difference in OQ,however they do not have much difference in SQ.
