Our nation has implemented reform and opening up policy for nearly 40 years.During this process,the levels of economics and spiritual civilization of people's live have been significantly improved.More and more adults begin to learn playing piano due to the sufficient material base.As a key connection that bounds the teachers and students,the teaching material is an indispensable factor in the teaching and learning playing piano of the adults.Currently,there are various types of teaching books for adults who want to learn playing piano in domestic teaching material market,and such diversity of types derives from the heterogeneity of the adult students of piano.In terms of the standpoints of both teachers and students,selecting a suitable teaching book for a given adult is the key to get the target of teaching as well as to achieve the piano dream of this adult.Because the teacher and the teaching material sever the students in actual teaching,in the first chapter of this thesis we leverage psychology methods and tools to investigate and analyze the behaviors and mental status of the adult students when learning playing piano.Then in the first chapter of this thesis we investigate related researches of piano teaching material for adults at home and abroad,and discuss the roles that teaching material play in the adult piano education.After investigating and gathering statistics of piano teaching material for adults published in our country,we present the current status of them.Among the above mentioned piano teaching material for adults,we select there excellent ones – ‘Enter the Gate of Music' by Zhen Lv,‘An Introductory Piano Course for Middle-Aged and Senior Citizens' by Yongsheng Kuang and Qin Ye and ‘the Collection of Pieces of Music for Piano Teaching for Adults' by Chongqing Tang – to analyze.In chapter 3,we initially compare the content of them and then accordingly study the scenarios that these three books aim at.In chapter 4,we summarize the characteristics and classification of these three books.Based on the analysis of these three books,in chapter 5 we initially further study how to use other kinds of teaching material for adults in actual teaching,and then investigate the question of how the teachers should do to handle the relationship between the teaching and the teaching material when teach adults to play piano.Only by answering this question can we achieve the consolidation of the teaching and the teaching material.
