Como agua para chocolate is the first novel of the Mexican writer Laura Esquivel,who created a new literary category——Kitchen Literature.Combining the Mexican rich culinary tradition with ancient Indian customs,it tells Tita's forbidden love story against a background of the Mexican Revolution.The comparison is made among three different Chinese versions,respectively written by Duan Ruochuan,Ye Shuyin and Zhu Jingdong.The translator's subjectivity can be demonstrated in their works to different degrees.They try to reproduce the exotic style of the Mexican indigenous culture,distinctive female characters,context meanings of Spanish vocabulary and grammar to Chinese readers.The thesis aims to find out whether the translator's subjectivity could play an important role when introducing Spanish literature works into China,by comparing these translations with the original version and analyzing different examples based on the features of Como agua para chocolate.Supported by a questionnaire and a text analysis,the thesis consists of three parts:the first introduces the motives,the topic,the significance,the translator's subjectivity and similar researches both at home and abroad;the second is an analysis of these three translated versions,in which introduces the translators and the survey,analyzes the differences among the translations that imply the translator's subjectivity while summarizing the results of the questionnaire,so that the analysis could be more comprehensive;the third is a summary of this thesis.The conclusion is that translators will benefit from the translator's subjectivity in the Spanish-Chinese translation process especially when translating works with cultural implications,so as to facilitate cultural communications.
