A Translation Report On Street Of Eternal Happiness (Chapter One-Chapter Three)

This is an English-Chinese translation report on the first three chapters from Street of Eternal Happiness: Big City Dreams along a Shanghai Road.(Rob Schmitz,2016)The book is written by Rob Schmitz,a reporter for Public Media Marketplace in the U.S.It was published in North America on May 17 th,2016,and there is no translated Chinese version so far.The book mainly tells about different people and things,which happens on the street of eternal happiness in China.It shows how the locals and outsiders chase the dream of the beautiful life in Shanghai,and it also contains joys and sorrows of life.The book provides important materials for the foreign scholars in the field of crossed-culture research,and especially for scholars,they can make use of it to study Chinese social classes,common people's life and public customs of Shanghai especially in aspects of history,politics,economy,cultures and customs.It takes the translator three months to finish the whole translation project which is about 15,000 words and then the translator spends about one-and-a-half months to proofread and finish the translation report.The translation report is composed of four chapters.The first chapter is the introduction which includes the background information of the original text,significance of the report,objective of the translation report and organization of the translation report;the second chapter is pre-translation which includes text analysis,proper nouns,the analysis of the key and difficult points in translation,main translation tools and proofreading of the translation;the third chapter is case analysis which dwells on some translation method and strategies to analyze the special cases in the process of translating,such as literal translation,free translation,back-translation and so on;the forth chapter is the translation conclusion,and it mainly contains major findings,implication,limitation and suggestion for future translation.
