Yan Xishan was deeply nurtured by the traditional Confucian culture in his early years, which laid a solid foundation of his sinology as well as the ideological system all his life.During his study in Japan,Yan Xishan participated in the bourgeois democratic revolution and began to contact the"Three People's Principles"and was influenced by its ideological theory. His personal experience in Japan made Yan Xishan realize that the Japan's strength lied in the implementation of "militarism".It was at that time that the militarism began to affect Yan Xishan's ideas and policies; What's more, the deepening national crisis also prompted Yan Xishan began to think about the fate of the country and the nation; In the long-term research and learning process, the transmission of other ideas in China also had a certain impact on Yan Xishan. The early experience and education had a profound impact on his later political choices and his views on things.Since modern times,China has gradually become a semi-colonial and semi-feudal society, the national crisis continued to deepen. How to achieve national independence and national prosperity is the goal that every Chinese who had national consciousness strove to explore and struggle. While the essence of national rejuvenation was to determine what kind of way and path to achieve prosperity.Throughout Yan Xishan's life, the three kinds of ideology that had far-reaching impact on him are the "militarism","Three People's Principles" and"communism".During the First World War,"militarism" was once recognized by Yan Xishan as the best choice for China to become strong. What Yan Xishan mostly respected was the high degree of patriotic, unified spirit the "militarism" formed in the national education. He believed that this was a powerful way to achieve rich and powerful forces. But with the changes in the situation at home and abroad, militarism was proved not suitable for China. The victory of the Russian October Revolution prompted Marxism to spread widely in China. After the founding of the Communist Party of China,it advocated the use of Marxism as the guiding ideology to achieve the revival of China, while Yan Xishan was opposed to the communist doctrine and the Chinese Communist Party's revolutionary proposition. So he spareD no effort to criticize the communism; In his early revolution times,he was deeply affected by the"Three People's Principles" and announced to stick to the "Three People's Principles"after the National Revolution.Yan Xishan had a positive attitude for the "Three People's Principles" and he also had his own interpretations on the "Three People's Principles".In the choices of the road,Yan Xishan would like to find another way to create and develop his own unique ideology and doctrine.Yan Xishan was deeply influenced by the traditional culture. Therefore,Yan Xishan's national revival thought is a complex ideological system and his ideas have its own ingenuity as well as limitations. When expounding his own ideology,Yan Xishan would also compare and criticize the CPC's "communism" and the "Three People's Principles" of the Kuomintang so as to promote his own doctrine.Yan Xishan's national revival thought was based on "moralism",which involved the political, economic and social aspects.Compared with the "Three People's Principles" and the "communism",it has many shortcomings and also his theory were often in contradiction with his own activities.
