A Study On Zhou Zuoren's Thoughts Of Translation From The Perspective Of Bourdieusian Field-Habitus Theory

Since the 1980 s,the sociological theory has been gradually applied in the translation studies,with French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu's sociological theory being the most borrowed one.For example,the introduction of his concept of “field”,“habitus”,or “capital” can help to explain issues like translator's translation practice,the production of translation and its acceptance,etc.This thesis is going to explain how do the Zhou Zuoren's thoughts of translation being influenced by the fields around him and his habitus.Zhou Zuoren,except of being a master of Chinese literature,is also a well-known translator with large amount and important theory and thoughts of translation.During the development of one's thoughts of translation,the translator,as the participant in the society,is accordingly been influenced by the society.Therefore,the thesis mainly goes as below,based on the Bourdieu's field-habitus theory: at first,it will begin with the description of Zhou Zuoren's fields around;secondly,it will introduce the habitus of Zhou Zuoren,and finally,it will explain the reason for his development of thoughts of translation,which are influenced by field and habitus.Though,there are some researches about Zhou Zuoren as a translator at home,they are merely a brief and diachronic introduction of his translation practice and translation works,with few studies on him from the sociological perspectives.Hence,the theoretical importance of the thesis lies in that it can tell how Zhou Zuoren,as a translator,being influenced by society does.Meanwhile,the thesis can perfect the application of Bourdieu's theory in translation study,especially the one concerning a translator's translation thoughts.
