A Report On The Translation Of Music Texts

With the development of globalization and dissemination of culture,music exchanges between China and the West are becoming more and more frequent;therefore,there exist numerous musical texts to be translated.This thesis takes two English-Chinese versions as materials,which are the texts of The History of the Violin and How to Make a Violin,mainly elaborating the process of translation and the specific techniques and methods used in this process.At first,the author briefly states the background of the topic,the development history and current situation of music translation,and expounds the general structure of the thesis and the significance of the topic.Next,the author describes the process of translation from three aspects: the preparation before translation,the important issues in translation and the corpus accumulation after translation.Then,the specific techniques and methods used in translation will be analyzed from three levels of words,sentences and articles using the qualitative analysis method.At last,the author summarizes the gains,limitations,and shortcomings during the completion of the task and puts forward the suggestions for further research.The thesis is aimed to help and inspire the novices to translate the texts of similar types.
