| Patrick Modiano(1945-)is a famous contemporary French writer who is in possession of personal characteristics.There is no specific plot in each work written by him,instead,according to narrator’s track,the memory fragment can be connected.Therefore,fragmentation is an important narrative style that the story is made up of plenty of scattered but relevant passages in Modiano’s novel.This thesis research Modiano’s narrative style started with the fragment in his works.This thesis consists of four parts: the image and the perspective of the narrator;the unreliable narration in the woks;the unordered narrative time and the marginalized narrative space.The first part is focus on the analyze of the narrators.The majority of the narrators in Modiano’s works have incomplete memories,thus leaving fractured passages for readers.Forgetting something important is responsible for the experience that the narrators lost their real identities.The second part analyzes the reliability of the narrative owing to the narrator is looking for the forgotten memory.Restoring the blank memory is impossible because the information the narrator grasp is not sufficient.However,the gain by accident is the experience during the tour of looking for the lost memory.The third part is a discussion of the chaotic narrative time.The narrative time in Modiano’s novel is in complication,resulting in the plot broken.In addition,it deeply reveals a phenomenon that life is fickle,creating the atmosphere of mystery.The fourth part is mainly in study of the narrative space which is a combination of virtuality and reality.The dark places where those stories happened fit precisely the marginalized situation of the narrators.Based on relevant narrative theory,we can deeply analyze the fragmentation narrative in Modiano’s novel and its effect on the implication of the theme.Furthermore,readers can possess a clear recognition of the unique literature world constructed by Modiano. |
