Exploiting from the perspective of aesthetics,faith is considered the origin of Tarkovsky's artistic thoughts in this thesis.Time is the essence of cinema,faith is the intrinsic value of time.Consequently,faith is the core of Tarkovsky's film art.Andrei Tarkovsky proposes the goodness as faith which orients the meaning of life.The goodness belongs to transcendent spiritual dimension same as truth.The meaning of existence lies above all in the fight against the evil within ourselves,so that in the course of a lifetime man may take at least one step towards spiritual perfection.The nature of life is the life projected by the faith in morality,which is always obscured.To reveal the nature,life should be permeated through by romantic and poetical spirit.The concept of time proposed by Tarkoversky is the nature of life.The time in which a person lives gives him the opportunity of knowing himself as a moral being,engaged in the search for the goodness.However,time is finite which could not exceed the range of lifetime.Besides,modern people suffer from spiritual vacuum which has formed as a result of the specific conditions of people's modern existence:constant activity,curtailment of human contact,and the materialist bent of modern education.As cinema is the imprinted time,men find the means to take an impression of actual life.Film art could make up for the gap in people's lost time.In other words it fills the spiritual vacuum of people.Knowing oneself as a moral being becomes possible due to the poetical dimension of life has been extended by film art.Time,captured in its factual forms and manifestations,on this idea,Tarkovsky builds his working hypotheses,both practical and theoretical.Time under projection of transcendent spiritual dimension is the core of Tarkovsky's cinema aesthetics.Tarkovsky practices his faith consistently through cinema,which develops his unique artistic style...
