A Chinese Translation And A Philological Interpretation On Xenophanes’ Fragments

In the history of ancient Greek,thought from the tradition of poetry teaching to the philosophical tradition,Xenophanes plays an important role.To research his hundred and eighteen lines of poetry not only has important significance for the understanding of ancient Greek history,even is extremely important to understand some aspects of American culture,such as the ancient philosophical disputes of poetry and philosophy;philosophy is based on the criticism of the tradition of poetry teaching,establish of knowledge concepts,the original conflict of Monotheism and polytheism.These are all reflect in Xenophanes’fragments.This paper is divided into two parts,the first part is the translation of Lashers’《Xenophanes of Colophon:Fragments:A Text and Translation with Commentary》;another part is under the translation and commentary of Xenophanes’ fragments,and attempts to understand the various basic problems involved in the fragments through a detailed interpretation of the fragments.According to the structure of the work itself,the article divides into four parts:morality,theism,nature and epistemology.Xenophanes’ theory is mainly based on the issue of God and God related issues as the theme,therefore,ethics,nature,epistemology are inextricably linked to theism.He believes that human beings put their shameful behavior on God,this is not only the criticism of the traditional myth,but also to tell his audience the wrong concept of morality among the traditional myth.These are consistent with Xenophanes’ moral residue.He also puts forward the problem of people’s understanding of God from the perspective of epistemology.He proposed that the new God holds the truth,but it did not tell human the truth,the human beings must approach to the truth by exploring.In addition,Xenophanes in his natural fragments is based on the criticism of the traditional myth.He criticized the traditional myth by talking about natural phenomena.Xenophanes educates his audience should get rid of the imprisonment of traditional myth,and builds a correct understanding about natural phenomena.
