The Study Of Fanyi Mingyiji

The Buddhist scriptures translation of China started from An shigao's translated sutras in the Eastern Han Dynasty and reached great prosperity stage in the Tang Dynasty.According to Kaiyuanshijiaolu(???????),the Tripitaka has been up to one thousand and seventy the six volumes and five thousand and forty-eight articles,which has become an important part of Chinese classical literature.At the same time,accompanied by a large number of Sanskrit Buddhist scriptures translated into Chinese,a lot of the Buddhist words began to enter into the Chinese vocabulary and injected the fresh blood into the Chinese vocabulary.A batch of books of Sanskrit translation emerged because there are a large number of foreign words in the Buddhist scriptures,the Fanyi Mingyiji(???????)written by Tiantai monk Fa yun in the the Southern Song Dynasty is one of them.The Fanyi Mingyiji included more than one thousand words,although it and Fanfanyu(?????)belonged to Sino-sanskrit bilingual dictionary,its transcription,content and research value is well above Fanfanyu.Research on the Fanyi Mingyiji is of great value to the research on the Chinese vocabulary,phonology,explanations and collation of ancient books.Besides,the theory of "The Five Kinds of Terms Not Translated" kept in the Fanyi Mingyiji is valuable to the study of the evaluation of translation theories.There are six chapters in this paper.In chapter one,the introductory part,a brief introduction of author's life and the cause of compiling of the Fanyi Mingyiji and its handing down and edition and its main content,and illustrates the current research situation and methods.In chapter two,mainly introduced the Fanyi Mingyiji's style from the principles of collecting words,interpretation style,the style characteristic and the terms identification.In chapter three,we divide the Fanyi Mingyiji's vocabulary into three major categories according to the translation method,transliterated words,paraphrasing words and the com'bination of sino-sanskrit words,and discussed some words Chinese lization.In chapter four,we made analysis to the translated Sanskrit words from Sanskrit-Chinese transliteration and discussed the simultaneous characteristics.In the fifth chapter,we made a thorough study to the Fanyi Mingyiji's quote books' and introduced the quote books'general situation,objective and content to exploit its the value of philology by regulations release.The sixth chapter briefly explained the Fanyi Mingyiji's influence and shortage in order to give it a relatively objective evaluation.
