This paper’s object of study is quote book and notes on Yue-kao of Wen Xian Tong Kao. Ma Duanlin wrote this book through a unique compiling way which contains literature, theory and comments. The layout of the literature and theory mainly takes the form of quote book. The comments embody Ma Duanlin’s personal way of thinking. Yue-kao of Wen Xian Tong Kao contains 207 kinds of classical literature and 203 kinds of comments,which both save a lot of music literature and rare books, and summarize the development of music comprehensively. These also put forward many unique literature and literary ideas, which involve many aspects of literature research. In the history of the development of music culture,these ideas have an important historical position and academic value.Ma Duanlin’s musical view aims to explore the independence of the music and the essence of "harmony",which is very significant in literary history. This paper adopts many research methods such as literature, musicology and history, in order to explore Ma Duanlin’s compiled musical view between the lines of Yue-kao. The thesis is divided into four chapters.The first chapter presents the quote book and quotations of Yue-kao, which mainly analyze the layout characteristics of the quote book scope and quotations, to explore the background and the value of the documents. Through this analysis, we can point out that Ma Duanlin focused on "the ritual" ministry of classical literature class and Shi Bu "official" class. Ma Duanlin also made a summary of song dynasty books. The quotations show that Ma Duanlin paid attention to the cultural heritage, Confucianism and musical cultural integration.The second chapter focuses on the source of comments, and explores the influence of song dynasty confucians such as Chen Yang, Zhu Xi and Zheng Qiao on Ma Duanlin. The influence song dynasty confucians on Ma Duanlin is obviouse, which reflects the musical idea of throughout-history, research method and the view of ceremonial music and the folk musical customs.The third chapter makes a study of the comments of Yue-kao. The comments mainly can be divided into three categories: question, discrimination and recitation. The comments involve the Confucian concept of music and literature of tracing. Based on these comments, we can make a further research on Ma Duanlin’s musical view.The fourth chapter is written on the basis of the former three chapters, to represent Ma Duanlin’s musical view. Ma Duanlin believed that “harmony” is the root of music and the vulgar music should be accepted. The processes of development and change of eye should be used to see music. We should also attach great importance to the independence and diversity of music. Other forms of music should also be taken seriously. Music to a certain extent, can reflect the politics, but can not be exaggerated as music plays a decisive role in the polity. We can make a combination of the content and form in the music culture.In general, Yue-kao is named after the word “textual research”, containing many aspects of research on the music, which reflects Ma Duanlin’s concept of music, harmony.The musical view is one of the most important qualitative leaps in the history of literature.
