A Study On Image-building Of The Character Lauretta In The Opera Gianni Schicchi Composed By Puccini

Giacomo Puccini,the noted Italian opera composer in late-Romantic period,is the distinguished representative of realistic opera and also one of the best-known opera composers in the history of western opera.From the point of view of music style,Puccini's opera are distinct and individual,with beautiful and lyric melody,characters full of emotion and distinct personalities,sensational stage effects,twists and turns of dramatic conflicts,sophisticated orchestrating and harmony,all of which making him outstanding in the art of modern opera.In his late artistic career,Puccini created ll tabarro,Sour Angelica,and Gianni Schicchi,three one-act opera with different styles.All of them have successively been given public performances in great theatres like The Metropolitan Opera,Roman ke Starr's theatre and won wide acceptance and popularity by critics and audiences.Of the three,Gianni Schicchi is the only comedy and also the best Italian comedy since Falstaff composed by Verdi,retaining one of most important opera in the modern opera history.This thesis,based on the composition of Puccini's opera,the artistic style of Gianni Schicchi and the characters and plots therein,analyses the character Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi and her dramatic image,musical image and linguistic expressions,etc.Moreover,the thesis analyses its aria Laurettas' O mio babbino caro in terms of musical style,language feature and emotional expressions,etc.By comparing different singers' performances,we discusses the features and styles in different versions and are expecting to do better in recreation of vocal music works.At last,the thesis expounds the musical enlightment of the character Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi from the respects of song accompaniment,opera performance and so on.It is expected that through the analysis of the character Lauretta,we can understand opera better and immerse oneself into the character to sing and perform.
