The grammar points of dummy verbs,verb-noun trans-classed words and verb centered phrases have a common feature: they are all nominalization of verbs and they are all “difficulties” in teaching Chinese as a foreign language for foreign students to master.This paper takes these grammar points as research objects,explores the features of verb norminalization in Chinese and English,and makes a comparison of them to find out the similarities and differences.To understand the cause of differences between Chinese and English verb norminalization is conducive to know the errors made by native English speakers in their study and present effective teaching strategy.This paper is divided into three parts.The first part is the introduction.It mainly introduces the origin,objective,significance and method of this research,and analyses the previous research results in respects of Chinese ontology,English linguistic schools and teaching Chinese as a foreign language.The second part is the text,it contains four chapters;Chapter one analyses verb norminalization in Chinese and English according to the dimensions of concept definition,realization way and type division.There are two levels in concept definition of Chinese verb norminalization: lexical and syntactic.Realization ways of verb norninalization are slightly different in ancient Chinese and modern Chinese,so we elaborate separately.The type of Chinese is divided into three kinds: dummy verbs,verb-noun trans-classed words and verb centered phrases.Research of verb norminalization in English is quiet more mature,the definition is quiet more clear.The realization way and type division can both be analyzed in aspects of lexical and syntactic;Chapter two is based on chapter one,it analyses the similarities and differences of verb nouminalization in Chinese and English in aspects of concept definition,content structure and grammatical function,and tries to find out the causes for the differences;Chapter three takes the view of three types of Chinese verb norminalization: dummy verbs,verb-noun trans-classed words and verb centered phrases,separately analyses the usage,error types and the causes for errors of these three grammar points in teaching Chinese as a foreign language;Chapter four is based on chapter three,it proposes the corresponding teaching strategies aimed at the errors of the three grammar points;The third part is the conclusion,it mainly introduces the probably content,innovation and deficiencies of the paper.
